About Printers row
Formerly serving as the city’s hub for all things printing and publishing, Printer’s Row is now one of Chicago’s most historically preserved neighborhoods. During its prime,
Printer’s Row was serving as one of the leading printing industries in the nation.
However, in the 1960s, many companies relocated to the suburbs, leaving the urban
neighborhood to face a rapid decline in residents.
Recently, Chicagoans have flocked back to the neighborhood to capitalize on the
convenience of location and proximity to the city’s center. With a number of grocery
stores, restaurants, and entertainment around the corner, it’s easy to see why Printer’s
Row was voted #1 neighborhood to live in the city by Niche.
The quintessential historic landmark of Printer’s Row is Dearborn Station. Previously a
passenger train service, the building has been renovated into a retail center. The
surrounding streets are filled with historic buildings, eclectic restaurants, and
bookstores. The neighborhood also hosts a Literature festival every summer that
attracts hundreds of visitors every year as the streets are filled with rare first editions,
classic novels, and children’s books all at a fraction of the price!
